Inside Track

Dubai

This sheikdom of deserts and beaches boasts a sophisticated lifestyle and enough of the exotic to make it exciting. The hotels are often high rise but always standard-setting, their innovated architectural designs highly visible reflections of the money spent on building them and the work that has gone in. Visit between October and May when the temperatures are pleasurable and the waters warm and relaxing. While Dubai is very much a taste of the Middle East, the refreshingly modern attitudes ensure very few culture shocks.

To make your stay in Dubai extra special, contact the Seasons in Style concierge department who will be happy to arrange the following for you:

- Let us arrange a night at the races, one of United Arab Emirates most exciting nights out. Evening meetings are staged by the Dubai Racing Club at the Nad Al Sheba race course, 10 minutes from the city centre, and run from November through to the end of March. Racing generally begins at 7.00pm, and personalised hospitality and dining is available.

- What about camel riding or perhaps a sand skiing tour; leaving your hotel in the morning a four-wheel drive takes you far into the desert where you meet your camel for half an hour ride across the red sand dunes of Murgham. Here you abandon tradition for the newest sport, sand skiing, where special skis are used and high dunes in the interior of the desert are chosen as slopes. Sand-skiing can be arranged on request or as part of a full-day or half-day safari.

- Dubai by air can be a spectacular sight to remember for a very long time. Helicopter and plane tours and even hot air balloon rides over the city will give you a lofty perspective of Dubai. Some trips take tourists across the city and over the desert and the Hajar Mountains. Experienced pilots with a valid license can hire aircraft from Dubai Flying Club on an hourly rental basis.

- Indulge in a desert safari culminating in the evening with spectacular sunset views followed by a traditional Arabian barbecue under the stars. These can be tailored to meet every taste, from a romantic and peaceful experience to elaborate fun-packed evenings complete with music, belly dancing, smoking hubble-bubble pipes and often a display of falconry.

- Couples and families alike will enjoy the world's third-largest indoor ski slope, measuring 400 metres and using 6,000 tonnes of snow. The Dubai Sunny Mountain Skidome features a revolving ski slope, an artificial mountain range, an ice bridge, a cable lift, a snow maze, an ice slide, polar bears, cold-water aquaria and special sound and light effects. Let us arrange private or group ski lessons.

All of the above activities and reservations and much more can be discussed and arranged by our concierge department.
