Le Grand Coeur, Méribel
Méribel - France
Overview
Nestling at the foot of the slopes in the centre of Méribel, this smart and wonderfully cosy hotel is the perfect mountain bolthole.
Méribel, in the midst of 600kms of Les Trois Vallees ski trails, is the home of some outstanding skiing, suitable for every level. A member of Relais & Châteaux, the charming and romantic Le Grand Coeur is an authentic Savoyard chalet hotel situated on the edge of a piste - an ideal base from which to explore the area. Wooden panelling and roaring log fires add to the warm atmosphere within the hotel. Each of the rooms is decorated in a cosy but chic Alpine-style with wooden beams and rich fabrics. Guests can relax in the hammam for the ultimate in après-ski chill-out or use the gym, spa, mud bath or sauna. There is a terrace outside the restaurant where you can soak up the sun in the day, so if you’re not in the mood for skiing enjoy being pampered in the hotel’s sumptuous but relaxed surroundings. An aperitif in the piano bar before a candlelit dinner in the famed restaurant completes the picture.

Wintersports
Les Trois Valles is the most extensive linked ski area in the World and some of the best snow conditions in Europe are consistantly found here. In Meribel there is a wide range of good blue and red slopes for the intermediate skiier. For the less adventurous there are many green runs leading back to the village. La Saulire on the Courchevel valley offers some of the most challenging runs. With gradients of 38 degrees these are among the most taxing black runs in the world. Meribel is in the centre valley and therefore ideally located for trips to Courchevel and Val Thorens in the other valleys. There are also more than a dozen cross-country routes in the area.
Snowboarding has become increasingly popular and Meribel has created snow parks, snow rides and half pipes to meet the demand, while a range of other winter activities like snowshoeing, snowmobiling, tobogganing and ice-skating are attractive options
