Montpelier Plantation Inn

Nevis

Overview

An English country-house hotel transplanted to the tropics, where a cool elevation belies the warm welcome.

Nestling 800 feet up Mount Nevis, this member of Relais & Châteaux overlooks lush valleys and the ocean beyond. Family-owned, the Hoffmans have painstakingly restored this 18th-century sugar plantation, instilling in their staff a pride in attentive service. At the centre of the 30-acre estate lies the Great House, built of volcanic stone.

Accommodation

Scattered throughout the landscaped gardens are eight cottages housing the guest rooms; the white washed walls and colourful fabrics creating a bright and airy ambience.

All of the Inn’s seventeen rooms offer both comfort and stylish living, with views of the sea and the lush hillside. Rich fabrics and furniture are an elegant mix of traditional and tropical design. Each room has a private veranda open to the sun and to the sea.

Restaurants & Bars

Take a stroll through the tropical gardens, then relax with a cocktail in the Great Room before enjoying a romantic outdoor dining experience on the terrace.

Under the guidance of Montpelier’s Executive Chef, the AAA four diamond Great Room specialises in using locally grown produce. Innovative classical cuisine is served on the terrace amid tropical plants and flowers, overlooking the lights of Charlestown and St. Kitts. The casually sophisticated dining veranda showcases a superb menu of island and continental cuisine; the freshest seafood, local delicacies and produce from the hotel's own garden.

Recreation

Montpelier offers the perfect balance between activity and relaxation.

Whether it be relaxing by the fresh water pool, reading a good book on the Inn's private beach, playing a game of tennis or simply having a massage to unwind, the choice is yours.

To help you explore Nevis’s beauty, island ecologists are on hand to guide you on hikes through the island’s tropical rain forest and deserted sugar plantations.
